Cast member voices initial fear about show being “annoying and woke.”
Marvel Animation released “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” on Disney+, but amidst the excitement for the latest debut of everyone’s favorite wall-crawler, Hudson Thames, who voices our hero had some thoughts that are concerning many.
During an interview with Collider, Thames shared that he had a concern for the show, specifically, that it would be “annoying and woke,”before reading the script, but then stated that he thought the show was “awesome.”
Needless to say many in the fandom are very disappointed.

I'm still watching #YourFriendlyNeighborhoodSpiderMan but, not in support for Hudson Thames. But for the people who actually poured their hearts and souls into this show.

Also @MarvelStudios pls #recast him. pic.twitter.com/kW3V2Cic3R
Many conservatives have taken the term “woke” and used it as a negative reference regarding media that encourages diversity and equality, seeking to oppose racism and sexism. This comes as a blow to long-time Marvel fans as diversity is at the core of the Marvel universe.

Despite the concerning statements made by Thames, many fans have enjoyed and praised the show.
“Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is streaming now only on Disney+
