Daredevil Born Again Premiered Tuesday night with two episodes “Heaven’s Half Hour” and “Optics”.
There will be light spoilers, if you haven’t seen them, come back later, or you’ve been warned.
Returning to form from the Netflix Daredevil series, this show wastes no time to jump into the action and emotional trauma. A tragic event will shatter Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and cause him to drop the Daredevil mantle. Though, much of the last season of Daredevil was similar with Matt not donning the suit, this feels more natural and obviously will lead to his return as the vigilante later in the series.
Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) responds differently to trauma. Following the events of Hawkeye and Echo, Fisk sets his eye (pun intended) on a political career insisting he is a changed man wanting only to do right by the people of New York.
Newly inaugurated as the Mayor of New York, Fisk must resist his natural, criminal tendencies to be a change agent for the City. Matt takes on a case that puts him in the sights of the NYPD and unknowingly becomes intertwined with the Fisk family.
This show took the challenge that the Netflix series set the bar for regarding mature (language and violence) and raises it in a very meaningful way. The story immediately begins with a twist that longtime fans will be dealing with similarly to how Matt does in the show. If you are not careful you will miss special references and easter eggs throughout. Gauging by these first two episodes, as long as they keep the momentum, Daredevil Born Again is a fantastic return for the character and peak Marvel.
