On March 11th Dread’s newest feature film ‘For Sale By Exorcist‘ releases on VOD. We had the opportunity to sit down with director Melissa LaMartina to talk about the movie, as well as what it’s like to make a film for Dread.
It’s a mockumentary about a real estate agent that specializes in selling homes that are haunted. She evicts the dead and moves in the living. This real estate agent and certified exorcist, Susan Price, take the audience through the day to day of her macabre profession and bringing us along on her own haunting journey of her seeking her own “forever home”. Chaos and plenty of funny moments ensues.
In talking to Melissa, she shared that Dread doesn’t normally delve into horror comedy but has been paying attention to Chris LaMartina’s work (Writer) and made the offer for the film. Honestly, it would be refreshing for Dread to allow for more diverse films like this.
Dread films are low budget and are given a filming deadline of 15 days. Thinking of major blockbusters, that is an extremely short amount of time for a feature film. Stephanie said they filmed ‘For Sale By Exorcist’ in 12 days in order to allow for any unforeseen circumstances. This time-frame meant that some of the ideas had to be left on the planning floor but also meant that they really had to scrutinize what they wanted to include in the story and the number of characters involved. This resulted in a story with a tight plot that was a benefit to the movie.
‘For Sale By Exorcist’ is a very clean cut story with interesting characters and a horrifyingly delightful story of finding your “Forever Home”. The jokes are witty and plenty, yet making you want more in the end. Personally, I feel like this is one of the most enjoyable Dread movie I’ve had the chance to screen thus far. If you like parodies and supernatural themes, this is a film you will enjoy.
‘For Sale By Exorcist’ is available March 11th on VOD
