“Bad Times at the El Royale” A Captivating Film With Wild Storytelling

If you’re a fan of ensemble mysteries, let me tell you, “Bad Times at the El Royale” is a must-see! Drew Goddard, a director and producer who truly deserves more recognition, delivers a captivating film that blends the wild storytelling of “Pulp Fiction” with the energy of “Baby Driver.” What more could you ask for?

The film’s non-linear storytelling keeps you on the edge of your seat, revealing character intentions in a way that’s both thrilling and intriguing. Each character has a unique arc that pulls you in for different reasons, making it impossible not to get invested.

Lewis Pullman is an absolute standout in this film. It’s only the third role of his that I’ve, but if he continues to deliver this level of talent, we’re in for a treat with his career. I was completely drawn into his character’s story and felt a wide range of emotions following Miles.

Jeff Bridges is, of course, at the top of his game, bringing his signature gravitas, while Jon Hamm surprises us with a refreshing performance. Then there’s Cynthia Erivo, she’s nothing short of spectacular. And we can’t forget Chris Hemsworth, whose incredible range continues to shine in every role outside of Thor (Hes great as Thor by the way). Even Dakota Johnson fits perfectly in this film, proving that she can thrive in a role that embraces her unlikable side. If directors and castings directors need to learn how to use her in films, take a note from Drew Goddard.

The camera work, the screenplay, the direction, all of it is top shelf. I can’t believe I didn’t realize this was a Drew Goddard film sooner! I definitely need to keep an eye out for his work in the future. This movie masterfully weaves tension, humor, and heartbreak into one beautifully crafted package, making it everything you could want from a stellar ensemble film.

If you haven’t seen “Bad Times at the El Royale” yet, put it at the very top of your watch list! Big shout-out to my podcast co-host Jeannine for turning me onto this gem. You won’t want to miss it!
