Anora truly hits hard and doesn’t pull any punches! It’s as graphic as it needs to be to set the perfect tone. Mikey Madison gives a sensational and riveting performance that keeps you glued to the screen for the entire two hours. It’s easy to see why she snagged the Best Actress award for this role! I have some differing opinions on the Best Director and Screenplay, but I’ll save that for another time.
The cast really brings this film to life, and the twists and turns are a delight to watch unfold. I loved the narrative, especially the conclusion—it’s just fantastic! The puppy love between Ani and Ivan during their Vegas escapade really took me back to my own teen years, reminding me of that blissful naivety of thinking we had everything figured out.
But the real standout here is Yora Borisov. His ability to convey so much with just his eyes and expressions is remarkable. You can truly grasp his thoughts and intentions throughout the film; he doesn’t just wear his heart on his sleeve—he displays it right on his face!
This is definitely one of the must-watch Oscar winners, especially considering the impressive competition this year. I enjoyed every film I got to see!
