This is what I was expecting when I walked into Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel” 12 years ago. I had expected hope, fun, corniness and visual delight. Snyder gives us the visuals only. Superman (2025) has a double dose of hope, a tremendous amount of heart and is great fun.

David Cornswet is “the” modern day Superman, he made it his own and lived up to the same level as Chris Reeve did 49 years ago. Nicolas Hoult is possibly my favorite Luther to date, no offense to Hackman, but he insisted on wearing hair. Rachel Brosnahan is a Lois is it gets and is way closer to Margot Kidder than Amy Adam’s could ever be.
Edi Gathegi is of course Terrific in every way, lol. Nathan Fillion will always be great in everything he does, and Guy Gardener is no exception, his bad hair, his bad jokes and his attitude are wonderful and add so much to this movie. Hawkgirl was a small role but a great one and I loved how Isabela Merced played her, funny but a full blown badass.
James Gunn has yet to make a movie I didn’t like, his weirdness and wit really work with the superhero genre and especially in the DC Universe. Let this man cook and we will have a tremendous DC Universe to look forward too.

Overall, this is how superhero movies need to be done. Big spectacle, hope building, funny and a story worth telling. If you even kinda like Superman or James Gunn, please check out this movie in theaters now.
Spoilers ahead:
I love how many small and “insignificant” life forms Supes Saves, the squirrel being my favorite.
I also loved that when it was Superman fighting in Metropolis, he did everything in his power to prevent loss of life and stop damage to the city. That was nice compared to MOS where they leveled the city.

Though she wasn’t there long, seeing Kara Zor-El on the big screen made me squeal like a little kid. We of course haven’t seen her on the big screen since Helen Slater. I CANNOT wait for Supergirl to hit theaters.
I really enjoyed the pocket universe. So many people aren’t willing to make things weird, but Gunn excels at that, it was so DC.
Superman is out now only in theaters.
